Our secondary glazing units can be installed directly onto the existing window frame using either our equal leg or odd leg profile. Alternatively, they can be secured through the side of the frame into the reveal, using the equal leg frame only.
If the existing windows are uneven or uniquely shaped, a wooden sub-frame can be used for a precise fit. All systems can be customized with various glass options to enhance thermal insulation, soundproofing, and security.
Secondary glazing is an effective method of reducing noise pollution, whether you are looking to protect from noise, for example road traffic, or retain noise, for example pubs and clubs.
A larger gap, or ‘cavity,’ between the existing window and the secondary glazing significantly improves soundproofing. For optimal noise reduction, we recommend a minimum cavity of 100mm. This can reduce road traffic noise by approximately 70-80%, with even greater reduction possible when using acoustic glass or liners.
A variety of glass options are available to maximize sound reduction. Using glass of a different thickness than the existing window helps disrupt sound frequencies, improving noise control. Acoustic laminated glass, with a special interlayer, is particularly effective for reducing high-frequency noise like aircraft sounds.
